I recently had the privilege of attending The Institute of Master Tutors of Driving’s annual awards lunch in Coventry, where RTA Law was recognised for its unwavering commitment to improving road safety for vulnerable road users—cyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians. I was honoured to attend alongside my colleague and fellow solicitor, Roz Galloway.
Since its founding in 2011, RTA LAW LLP has been more than a niche civil litigation firm—we’ve been a voice for safer roads. Our mission extends beyond legal representation. Through advocacy, education, and public engagement, we aim to achieve sustainable, long-term improvements in road safety.
One of our earliest milestones was the launch of the RoadShare campaign in 2013, which advocated for presumed liability in collisions involving motor vehicles and cyclists. This initiative not only raised public awareness but also contributed meaningfully to policy discussions that continue today.
The awards lunch was a vibrant and inspiring celebration, bringing together like-minded individuals and organisations dedicated to road safety. Listening to the stories shared by fellow attendees reminded me just how collective this effort truly is. Each story underscored the shared responsibility we all have in creating safer roads.
A standout moment of the day was the recognition of our #TakeAnotherLook campaign, launched in 2022 under our Motorcycle Law Scotland brand. This initiative stems from a simple but powerful message: if every driver paused to look again, lives could be saved. With strong backing from respected organisations such as Honda Motorcycles and the British Motorcycle Federation, the campaign has garnered over 6,500 signatures—enabling us to join Transform Scotland’s Motorcycle Focus Group. Our participation gives us a direct role in shaping policies aimed at reducing motorcycling casualties.
Over a delicious lunch, I found myself reflecting on what sets RTA LAW LLP apart: our personal commitment to road safety. Every member of our team is either an advanced driver, advanced rider or both, having completed the Institute of Advanced Motorists courses. This first-hand experience gives us a deeper understanding of the challenges our clients face and informs our approach to advocacy.
As the event came to a close, I left with a renewed sense of purpose. At RTA LAW LLP, we remain steadfast in our mission to create a safer future for all road users. The recognition we received at the awards lunch serves not only as a moment of pride but also reminded us that we-re part of something bigger. A community of people all working towards the same goal: real change and a safer future for all road users.
