A routine ride on National Cycle Route 75.
George approached us for representation following a cycling accident in Paisley. He had been out riding his Ribble R872 where his route took him on a shared use path which is part of the NCR75 Cycle route from Leith to Gourock.
As he was cycling along, he encountered a pedestrian and another cyclist coming towards him. Although there was plenty of space for both of them to pass safely, the oncoming cyclist panicked and swerved to his right colliding head on with Colin. Both cyclists fell to the ground injured.
George’s bicycle was damaged and he had a nasty laceration to his finger.
A split-second error leads to a head-on collision.
He had panicked when he saw George, and being used to cycling on the right hand side, steered right by instinct instead of lef.
The tourist was very apologetic but was able to assure George that his travel insurance would cover the damage to his bicycle.
George was taken by ambulance to Royal Alexandra Hospital where his wounds were cleaned and dressed. He later needed further review at hospital for ongoing stiffness and pain in his finger and was referred for physiotherapy.
